My Story
Pastor Michael A. West was born and raised right here at Robinson Memorial (RMC), which was originally known as St. Paul Church of God in Christ. Pastor West’s grandmother, Mother Necie Walker taught him the ways of the Lord and encouraged him to participate in all the activities offered by St. Paul Church. He was part of the Buds of Promise Youth Choir and participated in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and other activities, under the leadership of Elder Perry Robinson. Pastor West was baptized in 1972. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and is a Disabled Combat Veteran. He retired from the State of Michigan with just over 33 years of service. He is currently a licensed counselor where he specializes in veterans, substance abuse, and domestic violence. He is currently the Vice President of the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Social Worker, a member of the UPORFA Congress which works with veterans from various countries in Southern America, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor.
He earned his associates degree in Business Management from Lansing Community College, where he also obtained his Chef license. Earned both a bachelor’s degree in Education and master’s degree in Social Science with a minor in Social Work.
Pastor West has been married to his “Blessing from the Lord” Missionary Carmela West for 12 years and in their family, they have six children, 19 grandchildren, and are expecting their first great-grandchild in March 2023. They also share a strong family bond with their parents Darlina Windom and Calvin and Alice Grier.
He has worked diligently at RMC being a breakfast cook for the Youth Sunday School, Usher, Sunday School Superintendent, Finance Team, and Minister. After the passing of Superintendent William Lee, Pastor West learned valuable leadership lessons from Bishop Samuel Duncan Jr. and on August 23, 2021, Bishop Duncan appointed Elder Michael A. West the third pastor of this great church Robinson Memorial.
